The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times pt 6

Matthew 24:32-35

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

What generation did Jesus mean? It cannot be the generation of the disciples, because they never saw Jesus return in glory as described in Matthew 24:30. It is undoubtedly the generation that sees these signs. These events and Jesus’ return won’t be on some 1,000-year timetable, but will happen in succession.

- David Guzik

How do these prophecies differ from modern ones?

Generally speaking, the intended purpose is completely different. Old Testament prophesies and Jesus’ tend to be highly detailed in nature, while modern prophesies I have witnessed tend to be abstract. With these differences, I believe Biblical prophesies are to warn and to prepare us for specific events, while modern prophesies serve to encourage and uplift us.
